- Fountain of Expies: Mandrake had many imitators in The Golden Age of Comic Books, most of them with an almost identical costume. The one that is best remembered today is DC Comics's Zatara, father of Justice League member Zatanna. Another who pops up once in a while in current DC Comics is Fawcett Comics's Ibis the Invincible, a revived Ancient Egyptian who wears a turban instead of a top hat. The Justice Society of America's enemy the Wizard is basically an evil version of Mandrake, right down to the outfit and mustache. Even Silver Age magician Doctor Strange shares the Himalayan origin and (originally pencil-thin) mustache. And magician John Mandrake of The Bartimaeus Trilogy is named after him, though they don't have much else in common. Likewise, Shmendrake the Magician from The Last Unicorn is named in humorous homage to him.
- The Merch: Thanks to Defenders of the Earth, both Mandrake and Lothar were released as action figures in the 1980's.
- Referenced by...: In The Golden Boys Last Temptation, as telling her story, Supergirl tells the villain who she was facing made a gesture, just like Mandrake. Since the kid who she was talking to is not likely to know him, Kara clarifies that Mandrake is "a magician in old comic strips".
