Trivia / Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

Go To

  • The Cast Showoff: Martin Short shows off his singing chops in two songs.
  • Dueling Movies: In no other respects are the movies alike, but considering Europe's Most Wanted came out a short time before Brave, the scene where Julien, Maurice and Mort first meet Sonya and see her eyes glowing in the dark has a remarkable resemblance to Mor'du...
    • Made even more noticeable when you consider that Frank Welker voiced the Bears in both movies.
  • Edited for Syndication: The Freeform edit cuts the scene where the American promoter and the "King of Versailles" are smoking bananas like cigars after the latter signs the American tour contract, mainly due to time.
  • Fake Nationality: The French human Captain DuBois, Russian tiger Vitaly, Italian jaguar Gia, and Italian sea lion Stefano are all voiced by American actors.
  • Kids' Meal Toy: McDonald's released a set of ten circus-themed toys in their Happy Meals. These consisted of Alex as a ringmaster, Marty and Stefano in cannons, Gloria as a ballet dancer, Melman on a tightrope, the Penguins in a train, Gia on a trapeze, Vitaly with a ring of fire, King Julien and Sonya on a motorcyle, and a pull-back figure of the Circus Dog.
  • Money, Dear Boy:
    • Jessica Chastain (who voices Gia) reportedly took the role because she was behind on her rent.
    • Noah Baumbach wrote the script in order to pay his divorce attorney's fees.
  • Throw It In!: The 'Afro Circus' song was made up on the spot by Chris Rock.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • At first, Gia was going to be a caged albino jaguar in the Monaco casino, and would have been freed by Alex.
      • Gia was also intended to be a French lioness named Gigi
    • Manu and Maya, the two Asian elephants that are part of the circus, were going to have dialogue. However, all of their lines were ultimately cut.
    • A fourth film was planned for a 2018 release date, but it was removed from the studio's schedule due to the company-wide restructuring following the massive failure of their 2014 lineup barring How to Train Your Dragon 2.
