Trivia / Louis Theroux

Go To

  • Banned Episode: His interview/portrait of Jimmy Savile will most likely never air again, thanks to Jimmy's less-than-savoury tastes, although it did receive a follow-up documentary in 2016. Likewise, his interviews with one-time PR guru Max Clifford probably aren't going to see the light of day anytime soon following Clifford's convictions for sexual assault.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Louis himself seems to consider the Savile documentary something of an old shame but returned to the subject in 2016 to review his own thoughts and feelings and to interview those who had been impacted by his subject's crimes.
    • He also reviewed his 2011 interview with Joe Exotic ten years later following the latter's arrest. While Louis was not as wowed by Exotic as he was by Saville to begin with, he's still surprised that he failed to truly register Joe's manipulation tactics and cult-like mentality at the time.
    • He's stated that he feels in retrospect that Weird Weekends came across as a freak show, particularly the Christmas episode where he introduced several of his subjects to each other to see how their personalities clashed. He also shies away from discussing the Extreme Love: Autism documentary due to some of the parents feeling their children were misrepresented in it.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: When Louis decided in 2021 to do a follow-up to his 2011 documentary on Joe Exotic and the GW zoo in light of the surreal events that had occurred in the interim, he discovered that the producers of Tiger King had locked down most of its cast in exclusive contracts that made it impossible for them to appear in any other documentary works, which surprised him since none of the 8 or so people he had contacted mentioned this to him. He's even forced to edit out the appearance of a man under a similar contract when he accidentally walked into frame.
