  • Colbert Bump: Their big break was opening for The Rolling Stones on their 1988 tour, which introduced them to a wider public (read: white) audience.
  • Creator Backlash: Vernon Reid feels this way about the lyrics to "I Want to Know", which he described as "creeptastic" during a show in 2019. He mentioned that had the "me too" movement been around when he wrote the song, he wouldn't have written such creepy lyrics. He's vowed never to write lyrics like them ever again.
  • One-Hit Wonder: Despite public assumption, they technically are not One Hit Wonders; while "Cult of Personality" was their biggest hit, "Glamour Boys" also charted on the Top 40 at 31.
  • Revival by Commercialization: "Cult of Personality" popped up in Guitar Hero III and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but when pro wrestler CM Punk switched to this theme (which he used in Ring of Honor) in WWE in the midst of a red-hot storyline and persona change, it resulted in the song cracking the Top 200 on the iTunes download list and increased airplay on major rock stations such as KROQ. As a Thank You, Will Calhoun contacted WWE to perform the song at WrestleMania 29 for CM Punk, to which WWE wholeheartedly agreed.
  • Saved from Development Hell: The band started working on Shade in 2010, and was slated for release in 2011. However, complications arose, and the album was pushed back over the years. It finally saw release in September 2017.
