Trivia / Life SMP

  • Approval of God: Many of the content creators involved have left comments on fan-artists' work on social media. For Double Life, for instance, Jimmy has a livestream dedicated to reacting to animatics of the series and the credits scene at the end of Grian's last Double Life episode gives a shout-out to fan creators.
    AN EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS:
    ALL THE FAN ARTISTS
    AND ANIMATORS OUT
    THERE. WE LOVE YOUR
    WORK.
  • The Danza: All named characters in the series are played by their content creator counterparts of the same name, whether it be screen-name or real-life name. Played with for Day 6 of Limited Life and Secret Life, as several of the creators couldn't make it to the recording and wind up finding substitutes — GeminiTay for Cleo and Lizzie for Pearl during Limited Life and Ren for Tango during Secret Life, but according to Martyn's lore, they did substitute in for the characters in-universe as well.
  • Fan Community Nicknames: On Twitter and Tumblr, the Life SMP collective fandom is known as "Traffictwt" and "Trafficblr", respectively, basing the nickname on the colours of the life system (dark green for 4+, light green for 3, yellow for 2, and red for 1) resembling traffic lights.
  • Flip-Flop of God: The relationship between the Life series and other series seem to fluctuate depending on the creator involved. For most of the Hermits, Hermitcraft and the Life series co-exist as simply different series much like in real life; the Empires creators are more likely to reference Empires and other series as past lives; Martyn, the main lore writer for his own "Eyes and Ears" continuity, believes that the Life series is all that exists and other series are only dreams between the seasons, though the Lifers would have been plucked from their respective home worlds before that point and his own character has a currently unknown connection with his Datastream Defender counterpart from his V-Tuber lore.
  • He Also Did: Grian was the Head Builder for Wynncraft, and was a set designer for its predecessor, CraftedMovie. He was also previously the admin of the Evolution SMP, which ran from 2017 and 2018 and featured several other Life series creators.
  • Word of Gay: Indirectly; Martyn has confirmed in a Pirates SMP livestream that his character is pan. Since the "Eyes and Ears" lore is connected to the V-Tuber lore (i.e. Rats and Pirates SMP) in a currently undisclosed way, his Life series character can thus be assumed to also be pan through some form of Character Overlap.
  • Word of God: Due to the series' "Eyes and Ears" lore being centric to Martyn's perspective only, his content creator counterpart has had to make many lore-related statements outside of episodes, mainly in lore-explanation livestreams and on social media.
    • Players leave the series, permanently or otherwise, because their emotional state is still fractured from their experiences in past events and their souls haven't recovered from the trauma yet. In the case of temporary swap-outs on Day 6 of Limited Life, Cleo was swapped out from the shock of surviving so late into Double Life (since she usually died relatively early on instead of making it to the final four), while Pearl was swapped out due to the mental scars from losing Tilly (including Martyn's cremation joke on Day 2 of Limited Life) and Scott's sacrifice, and essentially the events of Double Life as a whole; for Secret Life, it's not confirmed what it was for Tango, though it's stated it's related to the events of Limited Life in some way.
    • Between series, the players' memories (excluding Grian's) are not wiped, but the emotions and interpersonal bonds formed during events are erased and reset for every season. At least, this is theoretically the case.
    • The reason Joel is the only person to recognize Lizzie being swapped in for Pearl on Day 6 of Limited Life is because they're soulmates and their love transcends all, even when one of their souls is in another vessel.
    • Fragments are formed in players' souls from either physical (i.e. death) or mental trauma relating to every season's events. Every player other than Grian has them; the Fragments are larger for the longer a gap they take to reappear in another season (mainly for Lizzie and Mumbo's cases), and are protected (and thus do not form) if the player wins the season.
