Trivia / Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: Despite receiving better reviews than Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, the game didn't do as well in sales, only selling 133,401 in Japan. This is likely the reason why there hasn't been a new mainline platformer since (this is not helped by the Wii remake of Door to Phantomile later killing off the franchise for several years).
  • Completely Different Title: Lunatea's Veil has a much more unwieldy subtitle in the original Japanese, Sekai ga Nozonda Wasuremono (The Thing That the World Wants to Forget).
  • Dummied Out: There are a few unused voice lines for some of the characters (such as King of Sorrow, Lolo, Klonoa, and Popka) that was never used in the final game. One notable line involves Popka letting out a sad whimper that would've played during the game's Bittersweet Ending, presumably in response to Klonoa's goodbye to Lolo.
  • No Port For You: Until 2022 saw the release of the Phantasy Reverie Series collection, Lunatea's Veil was exclusive to the Playstation 2, with a supposed Gamecube port getting the axe. It didn't even get a remake on the Wii due to the first game's remake not selling well.
  • Uncredited Role, The King of Sorrow’s voice actress is uncredited in Lunatea’s Veil. Phantasy Reverie Series does not fix this problem either.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • When redesigning Klonoa for this game, the devs went through a number of concepts before settling on his final design, some of which wildly differ from his final one.
    • If an IGN article is to be believed, Lunatea's Veil was going to get a port for the Nintendo GameCube, but it was later scrapped.
    • Hideo Yoshizawa had expressed interest in remaking Lunatea's Veil for the Wii if the Wii remake of Door into Phantomile did well. Unfortunately, it didn't and the poor sales of the Wii remake would lead to those plans getting scrapped. The game would eventually receive a remake years later as part of Phantasy Reverie Series.
