Trivia / Kittie

  • Creative Differences: Lead to the departure of Fallon Bowman in 2001. Disagreements over Kittie's musical direction led to some serious tension in the group, before Bowman decided it "wasn't fun anymore" and jumped ship. Her industrial project, Amphibious Assault, makes abundantly clear how far apart she and the Landers had grown, musically.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • The band have minced no words about their dissatisfaction with 2007's Funeral for Yesterday, from its Troubled Production to the radio-friendly end result.
    • Morgan Lander had mixed feelings looking back on 2004's Until the End, feeling that maybe a different producer or different studio might've helped the process. It doesn't help that their poor financial situation at the time — due to Artemis Records failing to promote them properly — really soured the album cycle for them, to the point that Lisa Marx had an acrimonious departure over it. (Jennifer Arroyo also left afterward, but thankfully that was much more amicable, and closer to Creative Differences than anything.)
  • Died During Production: Bassist Trish Doan is prominently featured in the Origins/Evolution documentary, which makes sense given that it was largely her idea. Sadly, Doan wouldn't live to see its release, dying at the age of 31 in February 2017 (no cause of death has been made public). The other members of Kittie were very shaken up by her loss, and dedicated the film to her memory.
  • One-Hit Wonder: An odd case — the band cracked the Mainstream Rock charts only once, with "Funeral for Yesterday" hitting #40. This isn't even close to being their most recognized song, however.
  • The Pete Best: Tanya Candler invoked this on herself — as she describes in the documentary, Kittie rapidly became a huge sensation, and it was not a level of fame she was comfortable with, so she left as soon as possible, before their debut even came out. She did, however, reunite with the band for the Origins/Evolutions show in 2017, even singing "Paperdoll."
  • Troubled Production: Funeral for Yesterday was produced by Jack Ponti, whom the band found to be an extremely difficult and fussy producer to work with. Tensions were bad enough that Trish Doan developed an eating disorder during the sessions, and the band bought out their contract with Ponti just to never work with him again.
Tara McLeod: When you take your time, and put it into your creativity, and focus really hard and work really hard, and someone says no to everything you’ve done, it’s hard to swallow.
