Trivia / Killjoys

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Hannah John-Kamen plays both Dutch and Aneela, using completely different mannerisms and accents for each character.
  • The Cast Showoff: Thom Allison (Pree) does his own singing on the show, with his cover of 'Wayfaring Stranger' at the ending of 'Reckoning Ball' being the most memorable.
  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Many of the actors playing Hackmods are real-life amputees:
    • Havigan is played by Prince Amponsah, who suffered severe burns over his face and upper body and lost both of his hands and a significant portion of each arm.
    • Miko is played by "bionic pop star" Viktoria Modesta, who suffered a debilitating injury to her left leg at childbirth and had it voluntarily amputated at 20.
    • Averted with Clara and Olli, played by Stephanie Leonidas and Tommie-Amber Pirie respectively, both of whom are able bodied.
  • Dueling Works: With Dark Matter (2015). Interestingly, fans of both franchises strongly associate their show with that of the other, especially given the similar settings (interstellar; corporate-controlled; big wealth disparities), the adjacent occupations for the protagonists (mercenaries in Dark Matter vs bounty hunters in Killjoys), and the fact that they premiered on Syfy at the same time and aired on the same nights until Dark Matter was cancelled after its third season. There were even those within both fandoms who were hoping for a crossover at some point in the future, which the showrunners, who were friends, considered doing.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: Mayko Nguyen (Delle Seyah Kendry) was pregnant during Season 3, so she spends a lot of time wearing very full dresses or standing behind tables (when she's not being filmed from only the chest up). The pregnancy was later worked into the script, at which point they stopped trying to disguise it.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Young Dutch was played by Ava Laferriere in all Season 1 and 2 flashbacks. She was replaced with Jordana Blake for Season 3's 'The Wolf You Feed', in a remake of a flashback that was initially shown in Season 1's 'Enemy Khlyen'.
    • Stephanie Leonidas played Clara in a guest appearance. Tommie-Amber Pirie subsequently took up the role, with the explanation that Clara was brainwashed and given Magic Plastic Surgery to believe that she's actually someone named Olli.
  • Throw It In!: According to Luke Macfarlane, the scene in "Johnny Be Good" where D'avin threatens Jelco at gunpoint was Pascal Langdale's idea.
  • Spared by the Cut: Michelle Lovretta revealed in an interview that Jelco was originally killed in "Johnny Be Good". After suggestions from Adam Barken, the production crew reshot the scene to leave Jelco’s fate unclear. He returned in "Heist, Heist Baby".
  • Spiritual Successor: To Firefly. A scifi show with stark contrasts between the lawless, Western-like poor areas and the sterile but highly advanced rich classes, its own slang, and a crew of rogues who uncover a vast conspiracy involving supersoldiers.
  • What Could Have Been: The showrunners of Dark Matter (2015) and Killjoys (being friends, whose shows have a similar tone and aired on the same night) discussed the possibility of a crossover where the Raza ended up in the Killjoys universe through a wormhole and inadvertently caused some trouble, leading to the Killjoys team being given a bounty on the crew, but it ultimately didn't materialize.
