Trivia / Kentucky Fried Politics

Go To

  • Inspiration for the Work: The author revealed that he came up with the idea when a wikibox was uploaded showing Sanders winning the 1968 election via a contingency vote; when a plot hole was pointed out, the uploader responded that they wanted Sanders to be president.
  • Ripped from the Headlines:
    • The SARS epidemic of TTL is specifically modeled after COVID-19 since both diseases became so widespread it resulted in almost every country mandating lockdowns and stay-at-home orders for its citizens.
    • Paul Wellstone, the Democratic candidate who won the 2008 election over his Republican competitor Olympia Snowe has some parallels with Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump in 2020 since both men were Vice Presidents under a minority-led administration and would later win the Presidency a few years later.
    • The Washington Redskins changing their name to Washington Warriors in this timeline is also influenced by their OTL counterpart's decision in 2020 during the Black Lives Matter/Antifa-related unrest (although they used "Washington Football Team" from 2020-22 and "Washington Commanders" starting in 2022). Ditto for the Mississippi flag changing in 2017, though it uses the proposed Stennis design.
    • "Country Conservatives", "Bernie Bros" and "Neo-Hippies" can be more or less seen as the Kentucky Fried Politics equivalents of pro-Trump America First Republicans since they share the same ideology.
    • As mentioned on the main page, the arson attack on the Zanesville BLUTAG Cactus Jack Bar is based on the deadly Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting by ISIS which targeted its LGBT patrons. The same goes for the Ark Wave which was inspired by the #MeToo movement.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, TTL's version of Back to the Future had the DeLorean's top speed be 77 MPH instead of 88. But following one of the readers expressing concern of how it felt "too slow", it was then changed to instead be 99 MPH.
    • According to the creator, he had a different list of presidents and vice-presidents of the United States in mind, many of which were scrapped for different reasons.
    • SpongeBob's was originally named "Seafood King".
    • The timeline was supposed to last only 11 chapters (after KFC's recipe of 11 herbs and spices) but a technical error in the computer forced the author to rewrite large chunks of the story and flesh out the world a lot more as well as the characters.
    • The author admitted that Harley Brown wasn't planned to be president or vice president, but the polls caused him to change his mind. He stated that he wound up enjoying writing Brown's segments.
  • Working Title: This timeline was originally titled "President Sanders (Relax! This Isn't Current Politics!): A KFC TL", clearly referring to Bernie Sanders.
