Trivia / Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis

Go To

  • Dueling Games: This game is really similar in concept to Dinosaur Digs, an expansion pack for Zoo Tycoon that Operation Genesis came out a year after. Operation Genesis has several gimmicks to set it apart, like random tornados appearing in your park, the ability to pilot a helicopter to herd, shoot, or tranquilize dinosaurs, and a mission mode where you use the helicopter to do these things, or take pictures from a car, or drive to destinations with the car. Despite only being an expansion pack for a game with inferior graphics, Dinosaur Digs has a bigger variety of prehistoric animalsnote , more different and varied prehistoric-themed contentnote  and better landscaping tools than this game.
  • Follow the Leader: The structure of the game is based heavily on Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs. Which is ironic, since that game itself drew lots of inspiration from Jurassic Park. The chief difference is that Operation Genesis tries to be more realistic and detailed with its portrayal of mundane exhibit maintenance, even such basic activities as keeping the animals regularly fed.
  • The Other Darrin: None of the actors from the films reprise their characters.
  • Science Marches On: Possibly.
    • Torosaurus has recently been the subject of debate over whether it's the older adult form of Triceratops or its own distinct genus. Similarly, Homalocephale may or may not be the juvenile form of Prenocephale.
    • The game places both Allosaurus and Brachiosaurus in the Tendaguru Beds of East Africa, likely to represent A. tendagurensis and B. brancai respectively. However, the former's designation as a species of Allosaurus has always been considered dubious and is now thought to more likely be an early carcharodontosaur (possibly synonymous with Veterupristisaurus), while the latter has since been reclassified as its own genus, Giraffatitan. Similarly, due to its placement in the Judith River Group, Albertosaurus may or may not actually be Gorgosaurus.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Many dinosaurs were cut from the game, including Alioramus, Deinonychus, Baryonyx, Ornithomimus, Yangchuanosaurus, Diplodocus, Apatosaurus, Iguanodon, Maiasaura, Panoplosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Tenontosaurus, and Wuerhosaurus. Developers also mentioned that they planned on having pterosaurs and marine reptiles in the game, but they were cut due to budget and time.
    • Many buildings were cut from the game as well, including a "JP Institute", a "DinoVet Depot", and so on.
