- Dueling Works: Probably not intentionally, but Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat received its own made-for-video adaptation the previous year.
- International Co Production: Animation-wise, at least. The animation, effects and background art was split between no less than a dozen companies (Dreamworks aside) across North America and Asianote
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Want an official soundtrack for the songs? Too bad, they never made one; Eventually it go the point where "Better Than I" was completely re-recorded as part of a retrospective album on the films composer.
- Rescued, as the soundtrack is available on YouTube and Spotify.
- Non-Singing Voice: Joseph was voiced by Ben Affleck, but his singing voice was sung by David Campbell. Same for Jacob, voiced by Richard Herd; his singing was done by Russell Buchanan.
- Stillborn Franchise: Was intended to be another in a series of biblical stories that the studio would adapt. It was also DreamWorks's first and only direct-to-video sequel, and its below-target sales put the kibosh on any more, including a planned sequel to Antz. The studio would find more success with one-off TV specials and Recycled: The Series adaptations of their later productions.
- What Could Have Been: Originally, Asenath was going to be introduced in the marketplace scene; as in the final product, her cat (which Joseph sees her buy) breaks away, and he lures it with milk from a stall, though it results in him getting beaten. Asenath then encourages Potiphar and Zuleika to buy him. The scene also had a catchier song, which the creators liked but decided didn't fit the darker context.
