Trivia / Joji

Go To

  • Development Hell: His entire career was this. With juggling Filthy Frank and his own insecurities of how people would react to the music, Joji kept going on and off about it from 2014 until 2016, when he finally came out with music.
  • He Also Did: He's the creator of Filthy Frank, though he would rather not have people mentioning it on his personal social media.
  • I Am Not Spock: While not regretting it, Joji made it clear he isn't Filthy Frank or any of the characters connected to Frank. This actually became a Berserk Button of his for a long while before he mellowed out.
  • Newbie Boom: His entire solo career under the Joji name received a massive new audience of teenage/young adult fans after he was picked up by 88rising, with major overlap into Korean Pop Music circles. The amount of people who became fans of Joji without previously hearing of his work as Frank was surprisingly large, which made the inevitable backlash from that crowd upon finding out absolutely hilarious to Miller's long-time fans.
  • Schedule Slip: His entire career was this and Development Hell for three years before he released singles.Chloe Burbank was announced in 2014, and yet not much has been known about it since. Fans have speculated on whether material from it was simply turned into his first Joji releases instead.
  • Tom Hanks Syndrome: Joji went from Filthy Frank and all of its vulgarities and disgusting antics to more understated, emotion-driven music. While some might argue his music videos still have the surreal tone and oft-violent subject matter that came with Filthy Frank, they are Played for Drama.
  • Reclusive Artist: He likes to keep his personal life off of the Internet, and the only time he's ever touched upon it was in interviews in which he confirmed his heritage from Japan and opened up about being into fishing and even having a zen garden.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original "Joji album" was recorded and planned to be released in 2014, but it slowly became delayed and was finally shelved due to Miller becoming detached from the Frank fanbase. This led to fans creating their own Joji albums as a result.
    • Chloe Burbank, Vol. 1, considering nothing came of it. It could be argued some of the music was reworked (as "you suck charlie" was remade as "Pills"), and it's often believed that due to the music being leaked (mainly "Thom" and "you suck charlie"), Joji simply abandoned the album and never looked back.
    • Nectar was intended to drop on April 16, 2020; however, due to COVID-19, it was instead delayed to September 25 of that year.
