Trivia / Jedi Academy Trilogy

  • Creator Backlash: Downplayed. Kevin J. Anderson has stated he wishes he could have written the series after working on Tales of the Jedi, feeling that he has a much better grasp on Exar Kun’s character now then he did when working on the trilogy.
  • What Could Have Been: Kevin J. Anderson has mentioned that he originally planned the series as a direct sequel to The Thrawn Trilogy, before Lucasfilm casually mentioned the upcoming Dark Empire series which changed everything inbetween and prompted major rewrites (such as Coruscant being a recovering war zone rather than a Shining City). He was also concerned that this made Daala's attack on Mon Calamari feel too repetitive and anticlimactic, as Mon Calamari had already suffered a much bigger invasion in Dark Empire. There are still traces of this problem in the published books, such as characters behaving as though the events of the Thrawn series are more recent than they're supposed to be.
    • Anderson also considered giving Luke and Mara a Relationship Upgrade, as he felt that they were a good match and that obviously they would fall in love and get together. He ultimately didn't do so as he wanted to respect Timothy Zahn's wishes, as while he did always intend there to be romantic subtext to Luke and Mara's relationship, he purposefully left it unresolved as he didn't intend for it to go beyond subtext at the time. This did lead to the much criticized Mara and Lando relationship, however. This was also because the Jedi Academy Trilogy was being plotted before The Last Command was finished, so Anderson worked on both these elements based only on the first two novels.
