• What Could Have Been: Francis Ford Coppola was originally attached to a J. Edgar Hoover biopic in the early '90s, planning to adapt Curt Gentry's nonfiction book J. Edgar Hoover: The Man and the Secrets.^note Gentry's book would be reprinted in 2011 as a tie-in to J. Edgar. Coppola's project, however, floundered in Development Hell for years until Clint Eastwood began work on his Hoover film.
