Trivia / Itazura Na Kiss

Go To

  • Adaptation Overdosed: ItaKiss is a very popular title that has been adapted as different media during the last two decades (eight different adaptations, without counting sequels, specials, and mobile games). Not only in Japan, but also in Taiwan, South Korea, and Thailand.
    • Japan: A 1996 short TV drama series that aired on TV Asahinote , a 2005 Drama CD series, the 2008 anime adaptationnote , a 2013 TV drama called Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo, and a 2016 movie trilogy (each movie covering an arc of the story — "High School", "Campus"/"College", and "Marriage").
    • Taiwan: A 2007 TV drama under the name of It Started With a Kiss. It has a sequel named They Kiss Again that was released in 2008.
    • South Korea: The 2010 TV drama Playful Kiss (it also features a short epilogue web-series that was originally released on YouTube).
    • Thailand: A 2015 TV drama called Kiss Me รักล้นใจนายแกล้งจุ๊บ.
  • The Cameo: Aiko Sato and Takashi Kashiwabara, who portrayed Kotoko and Naoki in the 1996 live action drama, make cameos as a nurse and a doctor in the 2013 remake Mischievous Kiss.
  • Died During Production: Kaoru Tada had an abrupt death in 1999 before she could finish the manga. Following her death, some years later, her husband (Shigeru Nishikawa) revealed that she planned out the ending and that she also left some scripts behind with unused plot details to her story. With help of Minoru Mizoguchi, a close friend of the Tada family who has served as planning producer of many of the ItaKiss projects, the original ending has been adapted in the 2008 anime and the 2016 movie trilogy he is directing.
  • Portmanteau Series Nickname: The series is known as "ItaKiss" in Japan. Discotek Media uses this portmanteau for their anime's home release in the U.S., too.
  • Similarly Named Works: Itazura na Kiss is also the name of the sixth Inuyasha ending song.
