  • All There in the Script: While some of the mysteries remain mysteries, such as the vague ending, almost all of the questions are answered in the original script. If you want your theories to stay in place without possibly being ruined, don't read it.
  • Based on a Dream: The concept of "It" came from a recurring nightmare director David Robert Mitchell had as a kid about someone following him. The passed-by-sex came up later as he worked on the story idea.
  • No Budget: The film was made on a budget of $2 million.
  • Sleeper Hit: Despite rave reviews, the film was expected to have a limited release followed by a VOD release. However, word-of-mouth was so good that the VOD plan was halted and the film was given a wide release and made back its modest $2 million budget in its first weekend.
  • Star-Making Role: For Maika Monroe.
  • Word of God: Mitchell has addressed a lot of the Fridge Logic about "It" in interviews, basically taking a Rule of Scary approach to the questions. In short, whatever answer is the scariest or most unnerving is the one which the audience should go with.
    • Does "It" get passed along through homosexual or non-penetrative intercourse? Yes, as long as both parties think it's sex.
    • Can "It" follow its victim on a boat or in space? Yes. It will find a way. If you locked yourself in a steel bunker, would "It" get in? Yes, eventually, or "It"'ll let you starve.
    • Would an orgy work? Yes and no — you would pass "It" along to the first person you had sex with, and then they'd do the same and so on. Thus, you'd have to keep track of the order and then warn each person and inform them of the order they're scheduled to be followed in. If you don't, then it'd be all for nothing because "It" would kill all of those people in short order and come right back to you.
