Trivia / Hot Wheels: World Race

  • What Could Have Been: According to the head writer, Jeff Gomez, on an Acceleracers Reddit AMA, the movie was much different in the planning stages.
    • The ending was much more grand and conclusive, with an explanation for the existence of the CLYP, SCRIM, Gelorum and the Acceleron and the motives behind the factions wanting the Wheel of Power, including a subsection of Accelerons who went rogue and made the CLYP group as their human front, and motivation for why Kurt (and later Harrison Lau the driver of Red Baron) were so desirable to the CLYP group.
    • Gomez also explained that many of the Plot Holes stemmed from things that got cut, including how Markie got into the race (he hitched a ride in Dan Dresden's trunk), explaining Major Wheeler's connection to the 1960s Hot Wheels series as the son of that show's main character (as well as his relationship to Tezla), the inclusion of a monkey sidekick, the Accelerons as well as other minor characters such as Esmeralda, Harrison and Dan being more involved in the overall plot, and showing that the World Race would take place in both the human and Acceleron worlds, with a whole Ocean Realm featured in the film.
    • Mattel later told him and his team to cut down on this world building, saying that kids would find the exposition boring and to focus on the action though many elements of these ideas were later used in the World Race mini comics as well as Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers and even in Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5.
