Go To

In General

  • The Ace: All of these drivers are the best of the best.
  • Badass Driver: Of course! If they weren't the best of the best they wouldn't even be in the World Race!
  • Friendly Rivalry: All the drivers don't seem to take anything too seriously and seem to get along quite well with each other.

    Wave Rippers

Josef "Vert" Wheeler

I'm a team of one.

The main protagonist of World Race, After getting his Drivers license he gets his beloved Deora II and joins the World Race

  • Anime Hair: He may have gotten it this way through hair gel.
  • Foil: Taro is this to Vert. Taro has had a ton of experience and is a great driver because of it.
  • The Gift: Is the best driver in World Race and yet he has little to no experience driving. Presumably this is because of his talent in extreme sports allowing him to handle unpredictable situations.
  • The Hero
    • Anti-Hero: In the World Race he is very self-centered. He gets better by the end.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In the World Race. He is very self-centered but when it comes down to it he still cares for others.
  • Jerkass Woobie: At the beginning of the movie, he's self-centered and gets indignant when his dad needs to deploy on his birthday. But when one considers that his mother is dead and his father, in the military, likely isn't around a lot, is it any wonder that he's not that well adjusted?
  • Nice Guy: After he wins the World Race he gives his five million dollars to Kadeem.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: His skating boarding/surfing skills and the turbo jets on his Deora II.

Mark Wylde

The name is Mark Wylde and when I race, I race!'

Kurt's younger brother, Markie is a young but evidently skilled last addition driver for the Wave Rippers.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: To Kurt Wylde. Kurt will still be there for Markie, however.
  • Big Brother Worship: Seems to worship his brother quite a bit because he wanted to be a driver since Kurt was one.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the World Race Markie saves his brother Kurt from one of the drones after Kurt betrayed the robots.
  • Foil: Kurt is this to Markie. Kurt is the experienced but arrogant older brother while Markie is the cocky but well meaning young brother.
  • Skewed Priorities: At times, he considers winning races above helping teammates.
  • Tag Along Kid: Is one of the youngest drivers in the movies.
  • Title Drop: At the end of World Race he says, "It's hot! Hot Wheel city!"
  • True Companions: To Vert and Alec.

Lani Tam

If he can do it, I can!

The sole female member of the Wave Rippers, she serves as the mechanic and tech expert of the team.

  • Ditzy Genius: She's pretty intelligent and knows a lot about cars and basic computer skills. However, she thinks driving a Wave Ripper car through lava is a good idea.
  • Nice Girl: Cares for all the drivers.
  • The Smart Guy: As shown in the World Race she easily calculates how fast you're supposed to go to get through the giant wheel.
  • Too Dumb to Live: In World Race she tries to go through lava, despite her car not having the same utilities as the Scorchers.
  • Wrench Wench: Is sometimes seen taking care of the cars.

Alec Wood

Wheels or waves, I'm the best!

Vert Wheeler's best friend.

    Scorchers

Taro Kitano

I'm gonna pass you.

The leader of the Scorchers

  • Aloof Dark Haired Man: He barely talks and when he does he doesn't seem all that friendly.
  • Always Save the Girl: In the World Race he immediately went to save Lani instead of winning the race.
  • Foil: Taro is this to Vert. Taro has had a ton of experience and is a great driver because of it.
  • The Quiet One: Best said in a few words.
Taro: (to Kadeem) Are you going to talk through this entire race?
  • The Stoic: He never gives out any secrets through his face.

    Street Breed

Kurt Wylde

Nobody beats Kurt Wylde. (shortly before he gets beat)

Older brother of Mark Wylde and the former leader of the Street Breed, Kurt lies a checkered motive during his race

  • The Ace: He must've been this because he was in the Grand Prix.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He usually looks out for his brother Markie. Usually.
  • Big Brother Bully: It's implied he has these tendencies but he still cares about Markie.
  • The Dragon: Was this to Gelorum in World Race. He eventually snaps out of it.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even when he was working for Gelorum he was reluctant to have any of the drivers seriously hurt. This puts him in conflict with Gelorum who clearly wants Kurt to win at all cost even if means the other drives are killed in the crossfire.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Decides to turn against Gelorum in the World Race.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In the World Race. He wants to sabotage the other drivers but doesn't want to kill them.
  • Ordered to Cheat: By Gelorum in the World Race.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Near the end of World Race he says, "Nobody beats Kurt Wylde." This is just before Vert wins the World Race.
    • Also near the end of World Race Kurt says that he can do anything Vert can. Right after that on cue Kurt fails to pull off a move that Vert just pulled.

Dan Dresden

Street breed cars are designed for driving mazes. Called cities.

Just another driver for the Street Breed team.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: Goes from just a random name that Markie mentions to becoming the new leader of the Street Breed and finishing in 3rd place.
  • The Lancer: Seems to been have this to Kurt Wylde, the leader of the team.

    Dune Rats

Brian Kadeem

I found the Wheel, and I am going to win the Race!
The leader of the Dune Ratz, Kadeem is by far the most level headed and kind of the team leaders in the World Race.
  • Ambiguously Brown
  • Nice Guy: He legitimately cares about his own team, his friends and his people.
  • Token Minority: Out of all 35 drivers in the race, he's the only African.
  • Word of God: According to Jeff Gomez, Kadeem is a Muslim from a Saharan nation.

    Road Beasts

Banjee Castillo

The leader of the Road Beasts. Implied to have died between World Race and Acceleracers, but was later confirmed to be alive and working with the Silencerz.

    Others

Doctor Peter Tezla

The Head of the World Race and founder of the SCRIM Corporation, he seeks the Wheel of Power but what does he want to do with it?

  • Meaningful Name: He's very smart for a guy named "Tezla".
  • The Smart Guy: He built a ton of cars, all with unique skills and tools. Also, without Tezla the drivers of the World Race wouldn't even know about Nitrox.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: A mild example. He wants to use the Wheel of Power to provide an infinite power source to the world; however, he also doesn't seem to care much that he's sending the drivers into increasingly dangerous alternate dimensions. He doesn't get better about this between World Race and Acceleracers, though in fairness, Gelorum posed a much greater threat at that point.

Gig

The non-human buddy of Tezla. Tezla deeply cares for Gig.

CLYP

A secretive organization trying to get its hands on the Wheel of Power for unknown reasons. In the final act, they're revealed to all be robots. Acceleracers sees them drop the disguise attempts entirely.

Gelorum

Let's see how well you drive in half a car!

An agent of the CLYP group(or possibly the leader), Gelorum wants to stop Tezla from getting the Wheel of Power by having a mole in the race. In the final act, she's revealed to actually be a robot in disguise, like the other CLYP drivers.

Major Jack Wheeler

What's this button do?

Vert's father serving in the Air force. He appears in the beginning and end of the movie.
