  • Creator Backlash: Andrew Moss, who played Rhys Ashworth, would go on to openly criticise the storyline leading up to his exit, in which Rhys cheated on wife Jacqui with Cindy Cunningham before dying as result of a bus crash, likening the damage done to Rhys' Character Development to an assassination.
  • The Danza: Cameron Moore played both Cameron Campbell, and "Cameron" the fictional internet boyfriend that Silas created to lure India to her death.
  • Dawson Casting: several, including Saira Choudry in her early 20s playing 16-year-old Anita.
    • Dean Aspen plays Duncan, a character six years younger than him. He gained weight to make himself look younger, and has to shave daily.
    • Averted with the actress of Amber Sharpe, despite looking older than her character's twelve years, the actress is actually just a year older.
    • Partially averted with the casting of Anna Shaffer as Ruby Button. Anna was seventeen playing a fifteen-year-old who both looks and acts much older than she appears to be.
    • Fourteen year old Holly Cunningham is currently played by Wallis Day, who is eighteen. However, Day looks as if she's in her early twenties, and fans even complained that the casting was highly unrealistic.
      • Now averted as Wallis has since quit Hollyoaks, and the role has been passed on to Amanda Clapham. While about the same age as Wallis, Amanda easily passes for fifteen.
    • Scarlett Bowman was 25 years old when she started playing 16 year old Maddie Morrison.
    • 15 year old Lacey Kane is played by Georgia Bourke, who is almost 20 (though she pulls 15 off very well).
  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Tylan Grant is autistic, like his character Phoenix.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor:
    • Ste's actor Kieron Richardson came out as gay in 2010, months after his character's Coming-Out Story.
    • Tylan Grant came out as non-binary after joining the show, and his character Phoenix eventually came out as non-binary as well; both now identify as trans men.
  • Real-Life Relative: Texas Longford's mother Melody was played by Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove's real-life mother, Sandy Hendrickse.
  • The Other Darrin: The actress playing Clare was replaced early in her run.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Amy Barnes was going to be killed off in the 2010 fire episode and her actress Ashley Slanina-Davies even filmed her death scene but execs were unnerved about killing her off, so she was ultimately spared.
    • Trudy Ryan was going to return in a 2016 storyline but Danniela Westbrook withdrew, so the writers decided to create a new character in order to fill her intended role, leading to the introduction of Suspiciously Similar Substitute Ashley Davison.
    • Loretta Jones was going to have a dark storyline centred on her in 2009 with the revelation that she and a friend had both been living under new identities after killing a 12-year-old when they were the same age but after the media drew comparisons to the tragic real-life murder of James Bulger, the storyline was scrapped following the Bulger family's objection.
