• California Doubling: The skybridge scenes were filmed in the Pudong district of Shanghai, as a skybridge of that size does not exist anywhere in the US.
• The Danza: Amy Adams as Amy. The original voice actress for Samantha was Samantha Morton.
• Deleted Role: In addition to Samantha Morton being replaced as Samantha's voice actress, Chris Cooper also filmed scenes that ultimately never made the final cut.
• Fake Brit: Well, "Fake Englishman" — Scotsman Brian Cox as (a digital recreation of) Kent-born Alan Watts.
• The Other Marty: Samantha was originally voiced by Samantha Morton (who's listed as one of the associate producers in the end credits).
• Technology Marches On: After discovering Theodore considers himself to be in a relationship with Samantha, Catherine sarcastically tells the waitress her ex-husband is in a relationship with his laptop. Yet no laptops are shown in use, and it would seem they're really not anything anyone uses, implying other than that one scene that they're outdated technology. It's like someone in 2015 complaining that another person is in love with their fax machine.
• Voice-Only Cameo:
  • Bill Hader is the man pretending to be a woman that Theodore finds in the phone sex forum.
  • Kristen Wiig is the woman who has phone sex with Theodore and wants him to choke her with a dead cat.
