Trivia / Granpa

Go To

  • The Danza: Emily Osbourne voices Emily.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Because no one knows who really holds the distribution rights note , Granpa isn't released on DVD and the only way to see it is to find it through recordings online. It did have a VHS release in 1994 and the soundtrack seems to be more available, as it can be found on streaming sites like YouTube and iTunes.
  • Reality Subtext: Composer Howard Blake was reluctant at first to take on the project due to the sad ending, but changed his mind when his own elderly father, to whom his six-year-old daughter Catherine was very close, became terminally ill. He wrote the theme song "Make-Believe," which has "Auld Lang Syne" as a counter-melody, after taking Catherine to visit her dying grandfather on New Year's Eve.
  • What Could Have Been: At first the movie was planned to be silent, much like The Snowman. But then Howard Blake decided it would work better as an "opera" and wrote songs for the characters to sing.
