  • Ascended House Rules: The change to hit and fatigue points. Formerly, fatigue points (tiredness) was based on Strength, while hit points (being cut to pieces-ness) was based on Health. Compendium I suggested reversing them; after all, muscles can help stop injury, while someone who's fit should have more endurance in a marathon, right? As of 4th edition, that's official. (Also helps mages from trying to get 12 ST to help get the FP needed for their magic.)
  • Development Gag: When Steve Jackson was working on the system originally, he referred to it as the "Great Unnamed Role-Playing System" in his "Where We're Going" columns in The Space Gamer, until he could come up with a "real" name. The acronym amused him sufficiently that he just made a name that worked with the letters.
  • Permanent Placeholder: The game was never intended to be released under that name. It was always supposed to get an evocative, marketable title at some point... but it never happened. The working title, GURPS, became the title it was released as.
  • Word of God: Specifically, the Word Of Kromm. Sean "Dr. Kromm" Punch is the GURPS line editor, meaning it is his job to understand the system. He will often make the occasional judgment about the rules, mechanics, etc. on the SJGames Forum.
