• Science Marches On: At the beginning of the comic's run, it was believed that canines are completely colorblind, so Florence was completely colorblind as well. While it has been retconned to only partial colorblindness and plausible in-universe reasons have been added in after the fact, the author has admitted that this is the only reason she was colorblind in the first place.
• Technology Marches On: In this 2007 strip where Qwerty plays Toccata and Fugue on a pipe organ, the strip commentary has a link to an MP3 of the music played for reference, though warns that the 16.3 MB file is "big, but worth it."
• What Could Have Been: Mark Stanley, on the forums, has said that Winston was originally to be a one-shot character, with Niomi to be Florence's primary human contact with the local colonists. The readership made comments to the effect that the relationship between him and Florence was too good to leave by the wayside, so that particular plot course was amended.
