• The Cameo: Fellow performance artists The Kipper Kids appear provide rhythmic belches during "Some Of These Days" and "Bim Bam Boom."
• Cut Song: "Johnny" and "Giter Brider Itzik"
• The Danza: Herman Bernstein (Richard and Danny's grandfather) as "Mr. Bernstein, the Old Yiddish Man".
• Dawson Casting: Phil Gordon, clearly well past middle age, playing the 10-year-old Flash. All his classmates are also examples of this.
• Deleted Scene: A scene where Gramps sings about his days as a wrestler.

• Recycled Soundtrack: The title song was later re-arranged for the theme to the Animated Adaptation of "Dilbert". Danny Elfman was not involved, but he didn't seem to mind.
  • The main riff of "Journey Through the Intestines" is a re-purposed and expanded snippet from the roughly concurrent Oingo Boingo song "I'm Afraid".
• Romance on the Set: Herve Villechaize and Susan Tyrell. No, really.
• Screen-to-Stage Adaptation: Sacred Fools Theater Company performed a stage version in 2010.
• Similarly Named Works: The 1983 movie, Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone.
