Trivia / Fear & Hunger

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The game was relatively obscure and didn't gain much of a solid fanbase upon the year of its release. It was only after Super Eyepatch Wolf gave the game a shout out in one of his "My Favorite Things" videos, before eventually going on to make an an entire, dedicated video essay about it (five years after the release) discussing his own experience in playing the game, that interest in Fear and Hunger shot up and the game gained a more solid fanbase, even leading to a rise in video essays and gameplay uploads on Youtube.
  • Development Gag: Nilvan, who was once a mortal woman that ascended into godhood in the game proper, was originally going to be bald if this concept art is any indication. In D'arce's D Ending, where she ascends to godhood herself, her Ascended form is bald.
  • Portmanteau Series Nickname: "Funger" for the game's title.
  • Referenced by...: Extra Credits has a brief scene of the Crow Mauler sneaking up on Enki and a Skeleton when discussing players moving between short-term goals in "Why You Can't Put Your Favorite Games Down".
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game started off as a Youtube RPG that would've been influenced by Audience Participation akin to Ruby Quest. The main character is also described as Le'garde's parent, while in the final game none of the playable characters are related to him.
    • Le’Garde has otherwise unseen animations for partaking in the wolf mask's Autocannibalism and the bunny mask’s orgy, with the implication he was going to be a fully-playable character instead of just being found in the dungeons as a party member. Many of his character files even refer to him as "Captain," similar to how the player character files generally refer to them as their classes.
    • Miro has stated that Ronn Chambara and the Tormented were initially going to be separate characters but combined them into one as, per his own words, "it just made too much sense for them to be the same".
    • Old concept art of D'arce depicts her as a closeted lesbian. It's unclear, however, if this was an abandoned idea or was never even meant to be in the game as much of the concept art of the characters started out as just drawings Miro made without a story connected to them. It is notably a far-cry from the rather deep love she has for Le'garde in the game proper.
    • There was going to be a prostitute/harlot among the playable characters when Miro was still developing the game but this was ultimately scrapped and reworked into Celeste.
