Trivia / F is for Family

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • The shows gets its mileage out of Mo Collins, who voices Cutie Pie, Ginny, Ben, Jimmy, Lex, Claire, Brandy, Vivian, "Nana" Rose, and Ms. Vandheim.
    • Every time Maureen, Phillip, Bridget, Kenny, and/or Scott have all been on screen together, they're all voiced by Debi Derryberry. Especially in the case of Maureen and Bridget, who become best friends in Season 4.
    • Justin Long voiced both Kevin Murphy and Chuck Sawitzki when the former was selling Christmas trees for the latter.
    • Trevor Devall with Bolo, Goomer, Red, Otto Holtenwasser, and Greg Throater.
    • Phil Hendrie as Jim Jeffords/Hobo Jojo, Reid Harrison/Colt Luger, and Mr. Durkin.
    • Bill Burr did this when he was voicing both Frank and Father Pat in the episode "F is for Fixing It."
    • Nia Renee Hill, Burr's wife, does this as the voice of both Georgia Roosevelt and her daughter, Nia.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor:
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Haley Reinhart voices Bill Murphy, and Frank in a flashback scene in his childhood.
    • Debi Derryberry as Phillip Bonfiglio, Kenny, and Scott Ichikawa.
    • Mo Collins (the same one who was a long-running cast member on the FOX sketch show MADtv) as Jimmy Fitzsimmons, Ben, and Lex.
  • The Danza:
    • Eileen Murphy shares a name with her voice actress, Eileen Fogarty.
    • Nia Roosevelt is voiced by her Real Life counterpart, Nia Renee Hill. Though the Roosevelts aren't shown interacting with the Murphys other than Frank and Rosie, there is a scene in the last season where Bill and Nia see each other from separate cars during a tense scene where Rosie is being harassed by the police, alluding to their future relationship. Hill also voices Georgia Roosevelt, Rosie's wife and Nia's mother.
  • Died During Production: David Richardson, the producer of this show, died on January 18, 2021 of heart failure, just as production was finishing on its' final season.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: While Bob Pogo's restaurant, Skinneee's, was seen as disgusting because it only sold chicken skins and ended up failing without attracting a single paying customer, in the late 2010s, a number of restaurants selling fried chicken skin did open in California and Arizona. In addition, a number of KFC locations in Southeast Asia began selling fried chicken skin.
  • In Memoriam:
    • Michael Kenneth Williams, the voice of Smokey Greenwood, died on September 6, 2021. A tribute to Williams appears at the end of Season 5, Episode 6.
    • Marc Wilmore, a writer and executive producer for the show, died on January 30, 2021. His memoriam is the at the end of season 5, episode 7, where he is shown with a picture of Kasper, the bartender at Kasper's Lounge, whose voice he provided.
  • Playing Against Type:
    • Laura Dern isn't exactly known for voice acting, TV series, or comedy. And she's pretty good at all three in this.
    • Haley Reinhart is primarily a singer in real life (best known for being a contestant on American Idol) and here she's playing the young, fictionalized version of Bill, in her first voice acting role.
    • Vince Vaughn is normally the goofy, fun-loving comedic protagonist. Chet might start out that way, but by the end of season 3, he’s about as far as you can get from the character type.
    • Jonathan Banks has made a career of playing tough guys. The character of Big Bill both leans into and subverts his most famous role, Mike Ehrmantraut, which he was still playing as the co-star of Better Call Saul at the time.
  • Real-Life Relative: Bill Burr voices Frank Murphy, and Nia Hill, his wife, voices Rosie's wife, Georgia. They both voice the parents of their in-universe counterparts, Bill Murphy and Nia Roosevelt. There is a very brief allusion to this in Season 5.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone.
    • In the Rosie-themed "R is for Rosie," the regular theme is replaced by "Shining Star," by Earth, Wind & Fire.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Neil Patrick Harris voices Louis Chilson, the homosexual brother to Sue, in Season 5.
  • What Could Have Been: The series was originally planned as short web videos, with Limited Animation and scripts lifted directly from Burr's standup.
  • Word of God:
  • Writer Revolt: According to Bill Burr, the series was born out of his frustration with audiences growing too sympathetic to laugh at his Hilariously Abusive Childhood. Depicting it in cartoon form was his way of saying "No, you don't understand. I want you to laugh at my pain!"
  • Write What You Know: The entire show is a semi-autobiography of Bill Burr's childhood (notice the name of the middle child), as well as his take on the particular era which he grew up in.
  • Write Who You Know
    • Bill Burr makes it no secret that Frank is based on his own rageaholic father.
    • Mr. Goomer is based on a creepy neighbour show-runner Michael Price had growing up.
