Trivia / Ernest Goes to Camp

• The Danza: Jacob Vargas as Butch "Too Cool" Vargas.
• Fake Nationality: Iron Eyes Cody, who played Chief St. Cloud, was actually a Sicilian-American.
• On-Set Injury: During the fight scene with Bronk, actor Lyle Alzado accidentally broke Jim Varney's nose. Varney later claimed that the cracking sound can still be heard in the scene if listened to closely.
• The Other Marty: Bill Byrge was originally cast as Eddie, and dailies were shot, but the executives could not understand him and the role couldn't be silent, so he was replaced by Ernest writer Daniel Butler, who later became Byrge's vocal coach before he would play the primarily silent Bobby in later films.
• What Could Have Been: Originally, the role of Eddie was to be played by Bill Byrge, who played Bobby alongside Gailard Sartain as Chuck in a series of commercials before the two would become part of the Ernest franchise. Executives, however, could not understand him and had him replaced with Daniel Butler. As mentioned, Byrge would go on to play Bobby in later films and primarily be a silent character, but in this film the character needed dialogue.
