Trivia / Epic Seven

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Because of the large cast present in this gacha, some voice actors play multiple roles.
  • All-Star Cast: While the English dub has a few recognizable voice actors among anime fans such as Crispin Freeman (Charles), Matthew Mercer (Basar, Corvus, Jecht), Ray Chase (Sez, Purrgis, Tywin, Taranor Royal Guard), Erica Lindbeck (Alexa, Ruele, Destina), Cherami Leigh (Cermia), Abby Trott (Clarissa, Mistychain, Merurin, Haste), Cristina Vee (Roana), Jeannie Tirado (Arowell, Nemunas, Rose), and Griffin Burns (Ras Elclare, Elson, Roozid, Pavel), the Japanese dub also had a lot of popular voice actors as shown here, and that's not even all of them.
  • Colbert Bump: The Guilty Gear Crossover collab saw a significant increase in the western presence and newcomer players for Epic Seven.
  • Content Leak: For every major patch, dataminers discover in-game files, assets or banners that would be used when the current events end. These usually get leaked in various E7 online communities.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Present in both the English and Japanese dubs, such as Abby Trott voicing Haste, and Junko Minagawa voicing Ludwig.
  • Demand Overload:
    • The Guilty Gear collab on 2019 had a rough launch due to unstable connections especially on the Global server. This incident also spawned the "Running Ras" meme. The server issues were thought to be a Colbert Bump effect by players starting because of the collab.
    • On June 2020, the developers acknowledged server congestion as the reason why the Global server experienced technical difficulties during the Summer event's rerun.
  • Dueling Works: A reason why Epic Seven had a Fandom Rivalry with Dragalia Lost. The games' release dates in the English market are close to each other (late September 2018 for DL and early November 2018 for E7). Gacha gamers who didn't have much time to try both only chose one. But since the genres of the games aren't similar (3D Real-Time Action for DL and 2D Turn-Based Combat for E7), gameplay comparisons don't get overblown.
  • Fan Community Nicknames:
    • The official STOVE forums address their playerbase as "Heirs".
    • Fans of Gunther collectively address themselves as the "Gunny Gang", based on the character's Fan Nickname.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • Epic Seven has a lot of similarities to Summoners War: Sky Arena in terms of gameplay, mechanics or modes. Fans of the other game even call E7 as an "anime clone" of SW, spawning Fandom Rivalry and debates about originality.
    • The shared playerbase between this game and other gachas noticed that Smilegate and Supercreative might have been following, or inspired by stuff that other gacha companies did:
      • A gacha safety net (allowing players to obtain a featured character in their banner) being added in response to backlash (The "Monkeygate" incident and conference in Granblue Fantasy gave the Cerulean Spark system there, the 2019 Korean conference in Epic Seven gave the 121 Summon safety net here).
      • Giving 10 free draws every day for 7 days during this game's first anniversary, just like Cygames giving free 10 draws every day during big events of Granblue Fantasy and Dragalia Lost.
      • Crossover events with real-life restaurant franchises. Granblue had McDonald's, Arknights had Kentucky Fried Chicken, Epic Seven had Wendy's.
    • The character portrait animations of E7 appear to be using the Live2D technology, just like Destiny Child, Azur Lane and Girls' Frontline did before.
    • Epic Seven also has a cute, animal-like mascot archetype with Arky, just like Fou, Feh, Vyrn, Homu and Notte.
    • On mid-2020, the promotional music video, "Promise" by Raon Lee, was used as an official YouTube ad for Epic Seven, gaining a lot of views and comments in the process. This marketing strategy of using music videos in advertisements was also used by other gacha games before E7 did, like Honkai Impact 3rd and Arknights.
  • Late Export for You: Epic Seven got published by Yostar in Japan a year after the Global English version was released.
  • Meme Acknowledgment: In a social media post, the developers have noted that a lot of players might not have used MolaGoras on Free Spirit Tieria yet and are keeping the 3 Molas from her Adventurer's Path for other Heroes instead. When she was released, this act became widespread quickly and led to the "Free 3 Molas!" meme/fan phrase. Then, in September of 2020, Free Spirit Tieria came with +15 Skill Enhance so as to make her more of a Crutch Character for newer players, and anyone who spent MolaGora on her would get the Molas back.
  • Milestone Celebration: E7 celebrates its anniversary every September (the launch month in its home country, South Korea). Players from all other servers also receive the anniversary rewards.
  • No Dub for You: The third-party crossover characters are only dubbed in Japanese no matter what voice pack is chosen in the game's settings.
  • No Export for You: The real-life merchandise from the Wendy's collab is only available in Japan.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: The 2020 Pixiv contest was conducted to let fan artists contribute a new character costume and a new title screen which will be implemented in the game.
    • A fanart of Tenebria won the new costume category. It's themed around Alice in Wonderland and released as an alternate character, "Fairy Tale Tenebria", by the end of 2020.
    • A fanart of Iseria sleeping with Ras and Aither won the title screen category, which was implemented as an in-game splash art by the end of 2020.
  • The Other Darrin: The Dark Tyrant outfit for Specter Tenebria had a different English voice actress compared to all other versions of Tenebria who were voiced by Elise Napier.
  • Teasing Creator:
    • In press conferences or livestreams, the developers reveal their roadmaps for planned updates, making players anticipate for something in the future. However, release dates could be changed and vary from their initial schedules.
    • The non-functional features that are left in the game (see the Missing Secret trope on the main page) are seen as placeholders or teases of what would be added in the future.
  • Voiced Differently in the Dub: The Japanese dub changes the tone of some characters in contrast to the English dub.
    • This is more noticeable on female characters such as Luluca who generally speaks in a "deep, badass" voice in English but had moments of a "cutesy, girly" voice in Japanese.
    • The casting choice also has a factor in this, such as some characters in the English dub being played by the same voice actor, but have separate voice actors in the Japanese dub. For example, Griffin Burns voices Ras, Roozid and Elson. But in the Japanese dub, Ras is voiced by Yuya Hirose, Roozid is voiced by Daisuke Hirakawa, and Elson is voiced by Shun Horie.
    • In regards to Crossdressing Voices, there is also cases where a character is voiced a female voice actor in English but is voiced by a male voice actor in Japanese. An example is Haste where he is voiced by Abby Trott in English, but is voiced by Ayumu Murase in Japanese.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A "Golden Hammer" feature/item was an idea mentioned in a livestream/conference that would've guaranteed Epic-grade equipment when crafting from Hunts. A year later, this idea still didn't come into fruition. Instead, the Gear Conversion system was thought to be a pseudo-variant of the "Golden Hammer" where an Epic-grade equipment is guaranteed after sacrificing a lot of fodder material.
    • According to datamined content and old concepts such as those mentioned in these Reddit posts, or in this spreadsheet, some backstories and lore were changed in the final version:
      • Iseria's Moonlight version would've made her into a doll, which was a different concept compared to her officially-released Briar Witch Iseria counterpart who got cursed by the Dark Witch.
      • During early development, Ras and Tywin were brothers. This explains why they look quite similar in appearance. Ras was a prince, a common human who would save the world. On the other hand, Vildred would've been the killer of the King.
      • There would've been a war between the goddesses and the archdemon. Kise is the one who would cause this war.
    • An very early screenshot of the Hero Inventory showed that in-game sprites would've been displayed alongside the character's full-body portraits.
    • In pre-released screenshots, Mercedes used to have a midriff-revealing outfit.
    • Some of the developers' decisions have been preemptively changed due to fan feedback before they were implemented in the game:
      • There was a plan to add a gacha safety net for Moonlight Hero summons, which would guarantee the player a 4★-5★ ML unit if they became so unlucky and end up getting 40 low-rarity 3★ ML units consecutively. This plan was dropped when a player calculated the amount of real-life money to reach the quota in the worst-case scenario and found out that it would be a very expensive safety net.
      • Assassin Coli was planned to be buffed by having her "Murder" skill silence the enemy team only if the target enemy is stunned instead of the initial version requiring the target to be killed. From these patch notes alone, players realized that it would actually Nerf Assassin Coli's ultimate move since PVP teams can just counter her with Immunity Set gears while most PVE targets can't be stunned anyway. Players reached out to the official forums, and thus, the developers changed their initial decision.
    • Kise's scheduled buff was moved to a later rebalance update compared to its initial announced date.
    • A 2019 Livestream/Conference mentioned that there were plans for an Epic Seven Netflix adaptation but things didn't went through.
