- Breakthrough Hit: "Starry Eyed" at home, "Lights" internationally.
- Contractual Purity: Some people cried afoul at her using the word "bitch" in Iggy Azalea's "Heavy Crown" considering how G-rated her lyrics normally are. And then she said "Fuck" in the song "Army". This trope is no longer in play.
- Creator Couple: With Skrillex for a time. She's featured on the song "Summit" from the Bangarang EP.
- Dye Hard: Is known for being blonde, but, like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani, is a natural brunette as this article proves.
- Hitless Hit Album: Halcyon debuted in the Top 10 in US and went Gold despite none of its singles reaching the Top 40. Though, its Updated Re-release Halcyon Days included the Top 20 hit "Burn".
- Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: Her major releases tend to be guilty of this. Lights had a Updated Re-release in the form of Bright Lights and then a condensed US edition after that. Halcyon had multiple editions with exclusive bonus tracks for various territories and retail outlets, and then Halcyon Days (another Updated Re-release) came out —- which had a deluxe edition of its own.
- Sleeper Hit: "Lights" spent a year and three months released in the United States before shooting up to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Ellie Goulding's first hit across the pond.
- What Could Have Been: "Burn" was originally recorded by Leona Lewis, but was removed from Glassheart to make the album more ballad-focused, and the song was given to Ellie Goulding who made it a hit.
