- Creator Killer: Eight Legged Freaks squashed the cinematic careers of director/writer Ellory Elkayem and co-writer Jesse Alexander into pulp. Neither wrote another cinematic screenplay, with Elkayem doing Direct to Video and TV movies since, and Alexander returning to a successful TV career.
- Distanced from Current Events: The original title was changed because it sounded too similar to "Iraq Attack", and therefore inappropriate with the start of the Iraq War.
- Throw It In!: David Arquette ad-libbed the line "eight legged freaks", which subsequently became the title.
- What Could Have Been:
- The original title was Arac Attack and in many European countries it was still released as that. There was also a Title Drop where Joshua says "they call that an arac attack" early in the film.
- An alternate opening has Harlan's broadcast running longer promoting the mall, after which a worker sees the toxic waste being put into the basement.
- There were plans for a sequel that would have had David Arquette returning as Chris. Due to the low box office return, it wasn't made.
