• Channel Hop: It was originally going to be produced by Warner Bros., but when the director's previous film Absolute Beginners bombed, they dropped it and it ended up at De Laurentis Entertainment Group (DEG). After DEG went under during production, Vestron Pictures ultimately picked it up.
• Friendship on the Set: Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans became good friends while working together. It was for this reason that when the Wayans siblings went on to create In Living Color!, Carey was invited to audition, and the show became his big break.
• Romance on the Set: Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis were married during a break in the shoot.
• Troubled Production: From being delayed for several years, to changing studio hands, to financial troubles, it's an understatement to say that this movie's creative process went through some issues.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The lead role was offered to Daryl Hannah, Madonna, Molly Ringwald and Debra Winger, but all turned it down.
  • In 2001, a Screen-to-Stage Adaptation of this film (which added other 1970s-80s pop tunes to the score and gave all the major characters at least one song) was written and received several staged readings in New York City, with Kristin Chenoweth playing Valerie. Unfortunately, the first reading was just a week after the 9/11 attacks, when theater in general was suffering but especially in New York, and it wasn't able to find enough investors for a full production.
