Trivia / Dragon Ball Multiverse

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon:
    • At least in the English version of Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Freeza's race are referred to as Frost Demons every now and then.
    • Trunks's Ascended/Ultra Super Saiyan is dismissed in canon as a useless form that sacrifices too much speed to be worth the power boost. In the comic, Trunks's years of training would allow him to use it cleverly in the Multiverse tournament by rapidly turning it on and off depending on whether he needed speed or power. Years later, canon Trunks would do the same thing in Super's Goku Black arc, flashing in and out of the form while sparring with Vegeta to feint him and land a few good hits.
  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • The novelization is written years after the webcomic release, so it tends to be full of these.
      • It's explicitly stated Bra using senzu beans against Cold wasn't cheating, but simply exploiting the rules to her advantage like her opponent did.
      • Gast and Raichi have more interaction in their fight, Raichi actually uses Hirudegarn, it's explained how Gast could sneak up on Raichi after seemingly dying, Hatchiyack is much stronger and capable of hand-to-hand combat, and Gast is made more powerful to alleviate complaints of his strength being an Informed Attribute in the comic.
      • To fix the above-mentioned Ass Pull of U16 Bra somehow knowing about Cell's reinforced nucleus, the novelization takes out Bra's line in the webcomic where she's already looking for it on her own and instead has U11 Buu accidentally give away that Cell is still alive.
    • In the wake of the massive fan backlash to the Majin Rebellion arc's ending, Salagir added extra pages bridging the arc and the next match, showing U16 Bra feeling horrible for her actions and apologizing in tears to U16 Gohan, and U16 Pan outright refusing to talk to her. This addressed criticisms that U16 Bra was Easily Forgiven by everyone and the arc had no lasting effects on the story. Salagir further confirmed the fan backlash also affected her fight with Gast, implying further development.
  • Blooper: Some of them were made public in the shape of minicomics.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Salagir regrets creating Universes 2 and 19, and also all the Original Characters, feeling the comic already had enough characters to work with. He's still pleased with how they were executed. It should be noted that Asura heavily disagrees with him on Universe 19, feeling they added a third kind of power (Technology) where in Dragon Ball it was always "Ki versus Ki" or "Ki versus Magic".
    • Salagir regrets how similar Universes 16 and 18 are in terms of the characters, lamenting that certain counterparts' similarities made it hard to tell them apart, especially the Gohans and Piccolos.
    • Salagir has come to dislike XXI's name, finding the original as-of-yet-unrevealed reason he named him as such "stupid".
    • Salagir is no longer fond of Bardock's original vision. He nonetheless will go through with it anyway and stay true to it.
    • Salagir came to regret his word choice of "passive" being the final push that allows U16 Bra to break free of her Majinization, agreeing that he should have listened to his English translators' requests for a better word.
    • Asura slightly regrets how he drew the Majin Cell Junior vs U9 fight, feeling he didn't make it clear enough that the Majin Junior was stronger than them but was too overwhelmed by U9 tag-teaming it.
  • Creator's Favorite: Asura, the main artist after Gogeta Jr's departure, has stated that U16 Bra is his favorite character. He also considers Bra vs King Cold to be his favorite fight that he drew.
  • Exiled from Continuity:
  • Flip-Flop of God: On page 82, Salagir stated that he uses the 50x multiplier for SSJ2, but then changes his mind on page 802, where he states it is 10x.
  • Milestone Celebration: May 2018 marked the 10th anniversary of Multiverse, so a special chapter was made with each panel drawn by a different artist.
    • Various fan art was made in honor of the website reaching 2000 pages.
  • Outdated by Canon: Many of the comic's ideas have become outdated since the 2010s.
  • Troubled Production:
    • Universe 9's Special Chapter was hit hard by this, being drawn by 6 different artists starting in 2009. As a result of most of them abandoning it, the chapter ended up taking 10 years to draw and finish. By the time it was ready, Salagir admitted beforehand that it would be a mess. A minicomic was posted afterward, showing concept art of everything that didn't make it in or was changed.
    • The whole comic itself went through a roughly year-long period without a main artist, causing Salagir to find multiple artists to make a single chapter each while he searched for a more permanent replacement. Chapters 31, 33, and 35 were all drawn by different people before Asura stepped in to take Gogeta Jr.'s place as primary artist of the webcomic.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Salagir has stated that as a result of the Majin Rebellion arc, some aspects of the Semi-finals and the future plot will play out differently than originally intended. Originally, U16 Bra vs Gast was meant to be a more "fun" match, but with her developments during the arc, he believes it isn't possible to do fun with her anymore. Another change is some of the later parts of U3 Bardock's early future vision, which are apparently going to play out different too.
    • The final U20 Special Chapter had a few changes. The chapter was actually going to end with a victory for the heroes, but Salagir changed his mind and instead chose to go The Bad Guy Wins route. Ultra Buu was also going to wear a custom Gi, but he ultimately went without it in the final product.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things:
    • Debates on Power Levels were eventually banned from the comments section because people kept on arguing about it endlessly.
    • Talk of Super was eventually relegated to the forums as people kept talking about it non-stop instead of what was happening in the comic itself, getting it deemed "off-topic".
    • Debate about Bra being a Mary Sue—especially after her fight with Cold and the Majin Rebellion arc—got so heated and omnipresent in the English section it was similarly exiled to the forums for a time.
  • Word of Dante: Some fans have taken Salagir's ideas for his comic as evidence of how that idea actually is or would have gone down in Dragon Ball canon.
  • Word of God: The DBM team answers many questions in the comic's comments section and elsewhere such as during Twitch streams. Some of them are catalogued here, here and on Salagir's account page.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Due to the comic being a Long Runner for over ten years, this is bound to happen.
    • Many of the first-round fights after Vegito vs. Broly were unplanned when Salagir began DBM, explaining why all of U18's contestants appear in the first half and why universes like U2 do not appear at all until after the lunch break.
    • U19's roster and designs were in flux during the early rounds, not getting finalized until the appearance of Phipsil during the third round almost ten years after DBM began.
    • Kakarot's immortality wasn't planned from the beginning, with Salagir only coming up with it around 2013 during the second round. It was partly developed to explain the Fridge Logic of why evil U13 Vegeta hadn't killed Kakarot despite Kakarot being a clear and potentially dangerous rival.
    • The 2017-2021 Majin Rebellion arc, and by extension Majin Bra, were not in Salagir's original vision. An unintentional side effect of this was future parts of the comic needing to be tweaked to accommodate for it, chiefly U3 Bardock's vision and U16 Bra vs Gast.
    • Salagir's depiction of Bra has frequently changed over the course of the comic due to her tepid reception among the fans. Based on how the comic started, as well as the novelization, some theorize Bra was intended to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold who ultimately had redeeming qualities, but fan dislike towards her less than stellar personality caused Salagir to turn Bra into a full-on Hate Sink, especially once she became a Majin. Fan opinion that she'd now become irredeemable caused Salagir to come up with a Dark and Troubled Past and a Freudian Excuse for her, followed by more changes once fans complained about Bra being Easily Forgiven.
      • Similarly, while Vegito's future Faceā€“Heel Turn has been foreshadowed in Bardock's visions since 2011, his parenting of Bra was mostly portrayed as positive up until 2021. As Bra's character shifted, Vegito's history with his daughter was retconned to be abusive to make her more sympathetic.
    • U13 Raditz's plotline leading him to attempt to become Mystic to kill U13 Vegeta and U13 Nappa was also spontaneous, with Salagir deeming it as "the next logical step" for him.
