Trivia / Dormitabis

  • Creator Backlash: TheSparky556, the voice actor of Garvey White, has since regretted his role in this game, outright saying that Dormitabis slander "gives [him] life" in a comment under this video. Despite this he still went on to voice Garvey in the 2023 remaster.
  • Development Hell: This game took two years to release, having gone through various different iterations within that time, before being at last released in late February of 2018.
  • Distanced from Current Events: The remaster excises the Rape as Drama plot point regarding Garvey Write largely due to the controversy surrounding the game's previous developer, Blackout, and the association of said plot point with the issues regarding what was found out about him.
  • Franchise Ownership Acquisition: After remaining in Blackout's responsibility for years, Ownetrick, the additional developer of the original game, permitted Expelled Studios to make a remaster of it, the remaster of which was eventually completed and released in 2023.
  • God Never Said That: It has never been stated by Blackout himself that Garvey's slimy attraction to teens that everyone dislikes him for was based on his real-life beliefs and it's a mere rumor and hearsay, having never been confirmed by his word. Either way, it would not make sense for someone to expose themselves that way while designing a FNAF fan game of all things, considering that it's Garvey, the detestable Big Bad, who has that trait, it's likely supposed to contribute to making his characterization more hateable.
  • I Am Not Spock: TheSparky556 despises his role as Garvey Write in the original game due to him also hating the character and wishes to not be associated with him, even when reprising his role.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: The creator of the fangame was exposed of being a pedophile as well as harassing his fellow developers in 2020, not helped by his alternate Twitter account filled with Nazi-related memes and shitposts based on certain real-life tragedies. This led to him going totally radio silent, and a remake getting shelved until Expelled Studios' efforts to remaster the game in 2022.
  • Role Reprise: TheSparky556, the voice of Garvey in the original Dormitabis, returned to voice him in Expelled Studio's 2023 remaster of the game.
  • Un-person: Out-of-universe, the game's original creator, Justin "Blackout" Kannenberg, left the internet entirely following his tarnished reputation earning him a hatedom, vowing to never return.
  • What Could Have Been: The "Unused Content" section reveals the things left out from the finished game.
    • The game was originally developed as free roaming. This was a novel element among Five Nights at Freddy's fangames back when it was first developed (circa 2016), but due to the game's long development cycle, there has been other released free-roaming fangames since then, most notably, The Joy of Creation: Reborn. As a result, the game was redeveloped as a standard point-and-click FNaF game to prevent free roaming from becoming a status quo.
    • There was going to be a minigame in the same vein as "Fun with Plushtrap" from Five Nights at Freddy's 4. The enemy used for this was a bear animatronic called Springlitch.
    • When it was still conceptualized as free roaming, reaching 6 AM would spell an instant game over. Dawnbreaker, a Havoc version of Shadow Freddy, would appear to kill the player.
    • A Havoc version of Balloon Boy was going to be available. He was added back into the remaster alongside the addition of Havoc JJ.
    • Minigames centered on Havoc Puppet performing his failed manifestations to give life on animatronics were scrapped in favor of the story being told through voice messages. You can play the demo in the Unused Content.
