Trivia / Doctor Who S3 E1 "Galaxy 4"

Go To

  • Missing Episode: Only one full episode (recovered in 2011) exists, plus an 8mm clip of the opening TARDIS shot from Episode 1 ("Five Hundred Dawns") and a six-minute clip from later in said episode during the TARDIS crew's first visit to the Drahvin spaceship. For a time this serial was so completely missing that not even the soundtrack survived (apart from a very poor quality copy of Episode 2 that was at times completely inaudible), although eventually a copy showed up.
  • Promoted Fanboy: One of the earliest examples in a show rife with them; writer William Emms was a fan of the show, and had created a story to be used during Dennis Spooner’s time in charge.
  • Troubled Production: Nobody liked this story and its heated production. William Hartnell clashed to the point of almost being fired. Peter Purves was annoyed how Steven was being truncated into Ian and Barbara’s place, leading to many Out-of-Character moments. Maureen O'Brien clashed with producer John Wiles about Vicki’s dialogue, which led to her being written out two serials later.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The Drahvins were men in the original script, but Verity Lambert thought the story would work better if the characters were instead women.
    • Ian and Barbara were supposed to be in this story, but when their actors left, Steven was given most of their actions, such as being trapped in an airlock.
  • Working Title: The Chumblies.
