Trivia / Doctor Who S30 E11 "Turn Left"

Go To

  • California Doubling: The scenes on the street in Leeds were all filmed over 2 days in Penarth, which is just south of Cardiff but looked close enough to what they were going for.
  • Completely Different Title:
    • The French title is "Le choix de Donna" (Donna's Choice).
    • The Hungarian title is "A másik út" (The Other Way).
    • The Japanese title is "Left Turn of Fate".
  • Hey, It's That Place!: The building used as the hotel where the Nobles are staying is the same building used as Lavender Lawns in "Eye of the Gorgon".
  • Recycled Set: The fortune teller's room was actually a redressed Torchwood Hub set.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Back before Catherine Tate agreed to return as Donna, the new character Penny would have saved the Doctor in the season premiere, which would lead to this episode showing what would’ve happened otherwise. When it was confirmed that Tate would return, the story was adjusted.
    • Russell T Davies dropped a subplot involving Donna getting married and having children. It was supposed to add drama, as Donna would not only give up her life, but her children’s. Later on, Davies became aware that Steven Moffat had similar plans for Donna in "Forest of the Dead" and Davies agreed that it was more pertinent to Moffat's tale than his own.
    • There would have been exploration of stories set in the past or on other planets. This included UNIT sending time travellers to stop the Carrionites in "The Shakespeare Code". Davies later cut these references because the story would have been bloated by continuity and alienate casual viewers.
    • Davies wanted the TARDIS to be on fire, but the budget didn't allow for the effect.
  • You Look Familiar: Chipo Chung, who plays the Fortune Teller, played Chantho in "Utopia". A bit hard to tell given that she was in thick makeup and alien costume, which lets her play a human character here with less likelihood of being identified, though the same voice and native accent are obvious.
