Trivia / Doctor Who S28 E11 "Fear Her"

Go To

  • Completely Different Title:
    • The French title is "London 2012".
    • The Hungarian title is Félelem és remény (Fear and Hope).
  • Creator Backlash: While they haven't dismissed the episode as being outright bad, David Tennant, Russell T Davies and director Euros Lyn have all gone on record as admitting that the episode could have been a lot better, and was hurt by a lack of budget and rushed writing and filming schedules.
  • Dear Negative Reader: When writer Matthew Graham was asked about the poor response to this episode during an interview that tied in with his later return to the series for the "Gangers" two-parter several years later, Graham flatly replied that he honestly couldn't have cared less whether or not the show's hardcore fans liked the episode, and that he wrote it for children first and foremost.
  • Defictionalization: The Doctor has indeed carried the Olympic torch in Real Life. However, it was carried by Matt Smith, the successor to David Tennant, for one leg of the relay. See here. There was also a serious petition to have David Tennant carry the torch up to light the braizer, though that didn't achieve anything. Instead, it would be rower Sir Steve Redgrave who delivered the torch to the Olympic Stadium, and a group of seven young athletes who lit the Olympic Flame. However, newsreader Huw Edwards did provide the commentary on the ceremony, and during one of the elaborate production numbers prior to this, the sound of the TARDIS materialising was also heard.
  • Never Work with Children or Animals: When they filmed the ginger cat vanishing in the cardboard box, they tried to coach the cat through to the cardboard box using fishing wire, but the cat refused to cooperate during filming. According to producer Julie Gardner, “The cat was the most disobedient cat in the history of cats,”.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • This episode was originally lined up for the next season. When a script by Stephen Fry fell through, it was hastily moved in to fill the slot.
    • At one point, the story took place on another planet.
    • Matthew Graham originally pitched a storyline in which the Doctor and Rose are faced with a man who has discovered how to drain things of their beauty, leaving his planet a sterile grey landscape.
  • Word of God: Matthew Graham noted on the DVD Commentary that the scribble creature was never to be called a "scribble monster", as the Doctor would never call anything a monster.
  • Working Title: Chloe Webber Destroys the Earth and You're a Bad Girl, Chloe Webber.
