Trivia / Doctor Who S27 E12 "Bad Wolf"

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: The Hungarian title of this episode is "Valóságsokk" (Reality-Shock).
  • Development Gag: The revived show's codename "Torchwood" — an anagram of "Doctor Who" — is mentioned in the Weakest Link segment (preview tapes of Series 1 were labelled as "Torchwood" for security reasons). The name would later be used for series two's Arc Words and a Doctor Who spinoff of the same name.
  • Enforced Method Acting: During the actual recording on The Weakest Link set, the director instructed sound engineer Neil Harris to mix up the played-back questions so that the actors' confusion would appear genuine.
  • Executive Veto: The production team originally intended to show Jack's naked buttocks on screen. After filming, The BBC's editorial policy department stepped in and denied it.
  • Parody Assistance: The Weakest Link host Anne Robinson, Big Brother host Davina McCall, and What Not to Wear hosts Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine all voiced the robotic versions of themselves on their respective shows.
  • Referenced by...: Roth's "I can't do it!" before trying to escape from the set and getting vaporised for his trouble is quoted at the beginning of Aesop Rock's "Grace", contrasting Roth's reluctance to play the Deadly Game version of The Weakest Link against a young Aesop refusing to eat his green beans.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Russell T Davies first posited that the Game Station would be run by a mentally-enhanced teenager named Edward, but quickly came to dislike this idea. He first replaced Edward with an elderly man and then, inspired by the precogs of Minority Report, with a pale, androgynous Controller instead.
    • The story was originally set 500 years after "The Long Game".
  • Working Title: Gameshow World.
  • You Look Familiar: Nisha Nayar (the Female Programmer), was an uncredited "Red Kang" extra in "Paradise Towers".
