• Completely Different Title: The Hungarian title of this episode is "A mutáns gázálarcosok támadása" (The Attack of the Mutant Gas-Masked People).
• Orphaned Reference:
  • When Captain Jack arrives at the climax, the Doctor shouts to him "Change of plan!", but they never actually made a plan. In the script book, Steven Moffat explains that the plan was in an earlier draft of the script and got cut because it was slowing the episode down.
  • The red bicycle comment was what remained of a story where Jack discovered that the Doctor had gone back in time and manipulated Rose's life to make her a better companion.
• Serendipity Writes the Plot:
  • The typewriter scene was written in after they had to cut a scene at the episode's end for technical reasons but Steven Moffat still needed to write up a new scene to get the episode to its required length with several mandates: it could not feature any of the main leads, it could only feature Nancy and the orphans, it could not have people in gas masks, only two characters could talk, and the kind of props that could be used were limited (Moffat wanted to use a record player at first, but was informed it wasn't feasible).
  • Nancy's gang of children were originally supposed to be part of the climax, but as the entire story took place at night and required being filmed in the evening, the child actors had restrictions in how much time they could be filmed at night so they got demoted in plot importance.
