• Role Reprise: The special sees longtime Who veteran Nicholas Pegg return to his position as a Dalek operator for the first time since "The Witch's Familiar" in 2015. The lengthy gap between appearances was commonly reported to be due to an incident where he inserted an acrostic in Doctor Who Magazine insulting his superiors for axing his column in the publication, though it should be mentioned that "The Witch's Familiar" was also the last time multiple Daleks appeared in the same shot.
• Trolling Creator: It's unclear who specifically was responsible for it, but the publicity for this special heavily featured the introduction of a new Dalek design, which was hugely controversial the last time and caused quite a bit of online debate this time. In the episode, the new Daleks are denounced as "impure" and massacred by standard Russell T Davies-era design Daleks.
