  • Died During Production: The music for this game was not composed by longtime Larian Studios collaborator Kirill Pokrovsky, because he died in 2015. Instead, Boris Slavov took over the reins. Some tracks are his own remixes of Kirill's earlier compositions.
  • Shrug of God: What is under Malady's mask? Larian isn't saying, and it's not clear if they even know. In the artbook, they actually specifically say: "What’s under that mask? ... If we know, we’re not saying."
  • Sleeper Hit: Everyone was surprised at how well it sold, including Larian themselves. In an interview three weeks after release, they admitted that they were hoping for 500k sales by Christmas, but had over 700k by the time of the interview.
  • What Could Have Been: Sebille's official art compared to her default appearance looks far different.
    • Ifan Ben-Mezd's backstory originally included him being addicted to drudanae, and he had a talent locked to him about it. He does mention it in a conversation, but he only took a hint of it in that story.
    • The game was envisioned to take place over seven maps, one for each of the races (including Undead) with Fort Joy, Driftwood, and Arx being just one of those (the human lands) before production deadlines and realities forced them to scale it back and divide the maps they had built into the game we got.
    • Lohse had short hair in some of the concept art.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: In a 2019 GDC talk, Larian head Swen Vincke discussed how they iterated and changed the story, constantly rewriting and adding lines down to the wire, with the script exploding into more than a million lines of dialogue within the mere months between their initial missed launch date of July 2017 and when they actually launched in September. And this was happening while they were in the middle of recording all of the voicework for the game, too.
