Trivia / Distortions (Symphogear)

  • What Could Have Been: The author released an outline of how the story would have progressed on a public Google Drive.
    • China would have started covertly supporting the Four Horsemen after learning of S.O.N.G.'s origins.
    • Sumphonia are real and are a transitional state from the gears toward the Custodians. Each of them would eventually come to embody a specific domain - Connections for Hibiki, Storms for Tsubasa, Winter for Chris, Energy Vectors for Maria, Death for Kirika, Justice for Shirabe, and Purity for Miku. Ultimately, the gears would prove the beliefs of the Four Horsemen wrong and retain their humanity despite becoming Sumphonia.
    • Regarding the fates of the White Noise:
    • It would eventually be revealed that the Four Horsemen were originally derived from a Russian force, and their primary base is in Mt. Yamatau. The Lamb would be revealed as their leader, Veniamin Kurchatov, and would have been confronted there, only to be killed by the Pale Man.
    • The Pale Man would be revealed as the true Big Bad and the secret backer of the Four Horsemen. He would also be revealed as the titular distortion, created from interactions between the Marduk System, Shem-ha's virus, and several other factors. He wants to eliminate all supernatural influence from the world so that mankind can rebuild without their influence. Thus he made the Four Horsemen fight using only human technology, with himself as the reluctant exception.
    • The Four Horsemen's overall goal would be to totally destroy and rebuild society free of the Custodians' influence, via nuclear war if necessary. When even that fails, The Pale Man activates his ultimate creation, Wormwood, a Doomsday Device that will destroy the world as a final "fuck you" to the Custodians.
    • The Gears would race to Antarctica to destroy Wormwood and have a final battle against the Pale Man's greatest combat creation, the Warform. Hibiki would activate her Domain and use it to finally end the battle.
  • Word of God: The author stated that there were three main reasons they lost interest in the story:
    • First, one of the later plot points involved Russia occupying Poland, which came off as in bad taste due to certain real-life events.
    • Second was a growing disillusionment with writing.
    • Finally, the author had secured a full-time teaching job and no longer had the free time to write as much as they did before.
