Trivia / DC Pride 2022

Go To

  • Executive Meddling: DC editorial insisted on the "Pride is a party" handling in Devin Grayson's story, which led to major backlash when it made Damian Wayne look homophobic and downplayed the original events of Stonewall at the first Pride. The story had to be rewritten in the hardcover edition.
  • What Could Have Been: Devin Grayson's story "Superpride" would've featured more of DC's older queer characters if there'd been room, as she wanted to include ones who weren't mentioned or featured at all in DC's first Pride anthology. To that end she reached out to writer Jude Deluca due to an article he'd written about Sigrid Nansen (Ice/Icemaiden/Glacier), which listed a number of DC's first queer characters who weren't in DC Pride 2021.
    • Grayson tried to bring back older versions of the Legionnaires to appear in the Metropolis Pride parade. This would've include Chemical King and Invisible Kid from the Pre-Crisis Legion, Brainiac 5.1 and Invisible Kid of the Reboot Legion, and Dawnstar, Shrinking Violet and Lightning Lass, and Element Lad with Shvaughn Erin of the Retroboot. Shvaughn would've finally made a reappearance after having been absent from the Retroboot and acknowledged as a transgender woman (in regards to the controversial "Sean Erin" retcon of the Five Years Later Legion), while Shrinking Violet and Lightning Lass were going to kiss on panel for the first time ever. Editorial vetoed this and insisted on the Bendisboot Legionnaires.
    • It was briefly proposed that Wanda from The Sandman (1989) make an appearance at the Metropolis Pride parade as yet another deceased queer character brought back from the dead. The cameo would've been built off Magdalene Visaggio's proposed miniseries Sea of Clouds, with Wanda appearing alongside an older, cancer-stricken Barbie as her caretaker. This would've also included older versions of Hazel and Foxglove with their adult son Alvie, and the two women appearing surprised when they caught a glimpse of Wanda and Barbie. It ended up not happening due to a case of limited panel space, and because Jude Deluca was worried about unintentionally stepping on Visaggio's toes.
