Trivia / Curse Crackers: For Whom The Belle Toils

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • Many players were underwhelmed at the post-game quest where you get to play as Bonnie, finding the level disappointing as well as the fact that the only boss battle was extremely easy, and the confrontation with Colorgrave was just a cutscene, making the whole thing seem anticlimatic. This was soon re-worked in a new patch of the game so that Bonnie's slam ability was available from the start and the level had more challenges as well as some additional boss battles and the introduction of Bonnie's Riot Mode.
    • Most of the artifacts were given new abilities, making them more useful than before and giving another option to make the game easier if you managed to unlock them. The Mourn Suit in particular was given the extra ability to jump higher even in mid-air, making it effectively another double jump item, when previously all it had been good for was letting you move normally in water, which isn't featured in a lot of levels.
  • Dummied Out: There are sprites for a boss battle involving an armored skeleton riding a hobby horse, which don't appear anywhere in the game.
  • Orphaned Reference:
    • The flying pig seen on the loading screen was originally meant to be included as part of a scrapped boss battle.
    • The fourth stage of the Swamp has a hidden block that requires the Blaze Cupcake to break it, and leads to the area where Vivian is found, intended as an easier way to get there if you can't make the long jump required for it from the other side. This was added to make it easier for players to find Vivian because freeing her yourself was originally required to progress the game, but testers were still having trouble finding her in the first place.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • As mentioned above, one of the boss battles in the Carnival would have been with a hobby horse-riding skeleton, the sprites of which can even be found in the game's files. The Carnival in the final version of the game instead has boss battles against a skater and a guitarist.
    • World 5 had a few different options that were voted for by the users in the official Colorgrave Discord server. The Astral Temple won, but the other options were the "Sands of the Dead", the "Candied Wood", or the "Forbidden Library". This would most likely have changed Tedra and Leer's attempt to destroy the world.
    • Some of Belle's earlier concepts had her looking more like a clown or jester; in the end, she was made into an acrobat.
    • An earlier design for Hawk had him as more muscular; this design seems to have been repurposed for Barax.
    • As seen above, if you defeated Bonnie without freeing Vivian first, you would have originally had to go back and find her before you could progress. Because testers were having trouble finding Vivian, this was changed to Jacky having freed her offscreen instead, which also saved the developers from having to program additional content involving the end of the Bonnie fight.
