- What Could Have Been: According to the artbook:
- There's unused title screens. In some of them, the game isn't named The Curious Expedition but Terra Incognita.
- The map was a square grid instead of a hex grid.
- The player character would have been able to use triangulation when exploring the map (which would hve resulted in experience gain or points of interest's reveal).
- Hot air balloon could have been used to travel on the worldmap.note
- Combat system included a feature taking the party members' position in account. Position of units, their type of attack (melee / ranged), and whether the enemy front row was empty or not served to determine the available targets of an unit. This feature does show up in the sequel.
- There was a crafting feature, allowing to build rafts, bridges, outposts... The outpost was reworked few times during beta, until it became a re-usable Camp Site equipment.
- There's a screenshot of the roster featuring Levi Herzfeld among the other player characters. He doesn't appear in the final game.
