- Troubled Production: Sarah J. Maas stated in a 2023 interview that after handing in her first draft of House of Flame and Shadow for editing, she found she wasn't satisfied with the story and ended up rewriting the whole book in around five weeks (which was a pretty massive undertaking given the finished book is over 800 pages long).
