    Bryce Quinlan

Bryce Adelaide Quinlan

The 25-year-old protagonist of House of Earth and Blood, she is a half-human and half-Fae woman who works as an assistant in an antiquities gallery. While she was raised by her human mother and stepfather, her biological father is the Autumn King, the ruler of the Valbaran Fae; she does not acknowledge him as her father and he does not acknowledge her. As such she is also Ruhn Danaan's sister.

  • Action Girl: She's capable of it, but doesn't often show signs of it. On the night of Danika's murder, she was drunk as well as high but still managed to chase down a kristallos demon and save Micah's life.
  • Good Parents: Her mother and stepfather are loving and supportive.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Human mom, Fae dad
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl
  • Hates Her Father: She loathes her biological father.
  • Heroic BSoD: After Danika's and the Pack of Devils' deaths.
    • Also after discovering that Hunt is the synth buyer she's been tracking.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: She is half-Fae on her father's side and is one of the Starborn Fae.
  • The Teetotaler: Becomes this after Danika’s death

     Hunt Athalar

A Fallen angel and member of the 33rd Legion, assigned to work with Bryce to solve Danika's murder and find why similar murders are starting up again. Formerly he commanded Shahar's 18th Legion during the angels' rebellion, and was enslaved as a punishment when the rebellion failed and Shahar was killed. He is 233 years old during the main events of House of Earth and Blood.

  • The Dreaded
  • Deal with the Devil: Micah offers Hunt his freedom from slavery in exchange for killing two thousand two hundred and seventeen people. The number is equal to the number of soldiers Hunt's entire legion killed during Shahar's failed rebellion.
    • He later offers Hunt his freedom if he helps Bryce solve Danika's murder and performs just ten more assassinations.
  • Heroic BSoD: After every murder he's forced to commit for Micah.
  • Made a Slave: After helping to lead Shahar's failed rebellion
  • Meaningful Name: His mother named him Orion, the hunter. It's not a name he uses, however.
  • Our Angels Are Different: As a Fallen angel, the "halo" tattoo on his forehead shows that he is a slave and is designed to severely limit his power.
  • Rage Helm: He wears a helmet with a silver skull painted on it when he is sent to kill someone.
  • Red Baron: He's just called the Umbra Mortis by most people

     Danika Fendyr

Bryce's roommate and best friend. Her murder kicks off the main plot of House of Earth and Blood.

     Ruhn Danaan

Bryce's brother and Crown Prince of the Valbaran Fae. He serves as a member of Crescent City's Auxiliary. While they are siblings, Ruhn and Bryce refer to each other as (distant) cousins in public.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He is very protective of his sister, even if they don't get along that well.
  • The Chosen One: His power mostly comes from his mother, but his ability to summon a tiny bit of starlight makes him this in the eyes of the Fae.
  • Hates His Father: He can't stand his father for many reasons, including but not limited to his treatment of his mother and of Bryce.

    Fury Axtar

A mercernary/assassin and a friend of Bryce and Danika's. They all met when she was undercover at Crescent City University where Bryce and Danika were students.

     Micah Domitus

Archangel Micah Domitus

The ruler of the Central Business District in Crescent City as well as the Archangel of Valbara, making him the ruler of the entire territory. He is answerable only to the Asteri.

  • Big Bad
  • Deal with the Devil: He offers Hunt his freedom in exchange for assassinating a number of people equal to all of the lives Hunt's legion took during Shahar's failed rebellion. This means he has to kill 2,217 people.
    • He later offers Hunt his freedom if he helps Bryce solve Danika's murder and stops the new killings.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: This is true of all the Archangels, including Micah.
