Trivia / Create-a-Pokémon

Go To

  • Defictionalization: The first CAP, Syclant, would have just been hypothetical were it not that DougJustDoug opened a server to try out the Pokémon. The Create-a-Pokémon project thenceforward grew immensely in process, userbase, and recognition.
  • Good Bad Bugs: The first few hours of Naviathan's playtest placed zero bans on what Pokémon could be used. Therefore, people could use legendary Pokémon or even multiple Mega Pokémon without needing to Mega Evolve.
  • Meme Acknowledgment: While it isn't an official CAP, Chamereon's very existence as well as its Black and X/Y Pokédex entries are jabs at the memes around it.
  • Milestone Celebration: Special occasions allow the implementation of Frameworks, which allow for an extra custom element to be associated with the CAP in question. To date:
    • Caribolt, Smokomodo, and Snaelstrom was created to celebrate the 25th CAP project, their framework being a Starter trio.
    • Venomicon was created to celebrate the 30th CAP project as well as the release of the Gen IV remakes, its framework being 'Giratina-Formes'.
  • Troubled Production:
    • Cyclohm's development could be best described as "we don't know where we're going", in contrast to the more refined process of most other CAP Pokémon.
    • Aurumoth's process was hijacked by its topic leader to create his dream Game-Breaker Bug-type, causing it to be borderline Purposefully Overpowered. As such, it received several Nerfs in later generations to make it fit its original concept better, and future CAP processes revamped the nomination and submission systems in order to prevent something like Aurumoth from happening ever again.
  • What Could Have Been: CAP Pokémon could have taken very different turns if the community had voted on different outcomes., and top-ranking art and sprite submissions for each CAP are showcased on the Smogon website. The processes and scrapped concepts for each CAP are kept within the CAP Process Archive.
