- The original plan for the continuation of the Bond books was that different writers would write them under the Robert Markham pseudonym.
- Amis was all for Eon Productions making a movie of his book but the powers that be refused, possibly in revenge for Amis' public badmouthing of their films, especially during the Roger Moore era. In later years aspects from the novel began to crop up: M's kidnap is used in The World Is Not Enough; Die Another Day features a character named Colonel Tan-Sun Moon, and Spectre reuses the novel's climactic torture scene, even having Blofeld repeat one of Sun's speeches verbatim.
