  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $25 million. Gross, $13,071,518.
  • Cast the Runner-Up: Spike Lee wanted John Turturro to play Detective Rocco Klein, and Michael Imperioli to play Detective Larry Mazilla. The studio balked at Lee's request, and Martin Scorsese suggested Harvey Keitel for the role of Rocco, with Turturro sliding into the role of Mazilla.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, Martin Scorsese was going to direct, with Robert De Niro starring as Rocco Klein. They both decided to make Casino instead. Jack Nicholson was also considered for Rocco.
    • Samuel L. Jackson was considered for the role of Rodney Little.
    • Back when Scorsese was attached to direct and De Niro was going to star, the detective characters were going to be much more prominent, with Rocco experiencing a midlife crisis. However, once those two left the movie, Spike Lee rewrote the script to center Strike as the main character, saying that exploring the messy personal lives of white police officers had already been done before in countless other crime dramas.
