• Actor Allusion:
  • This isn't the first time Tim Allen has scared someone into falling off a roof on Christmas Eve.
  • M. Emmet Walsh returns to portray Tim Allen's bitter old neighbor Walt Scheel after portraying Tim Allen's bitter old father-in-law on Home Improvement.
• Creator Killer: Joe Roth directed only one more film, 2006's Freedomland. However, he then returned to producing, the enormous success of Alice in Wonderland (2010) eventually leading him to participate in a number of large-scale films.
• Fake American: Dan Aykroyd generally does a good job of hiding his Canadian accent as Vic Frohmeyer, except when it slips a bit upon receiving news that Blair is returning home and he asks "What's that about?"
• Orphaned Reference: There was a scene showing Luther getting some cosmetic work on his teeth, which explains why he's unable to speak, eat, or drink properly at the restaurant. Since the scene was cut, the movie tries to handwave it as a side effect of getting botox injections; however, Luther wasn't given any botox in the vacinity of his mouth, and as such the scene makes little sense.
• Star-Derailing Role: This disaster not only brought Tim Allen's film career to the brink of ruin in 2004 before Zoom finished the job two years later, but also led Jamie Lee Curtis to take a four-year acting hiatus. When she returned to the screen, it was in films that were critically panned and/or financially bombed such as Beverly Hills Chihuahua and You Again. Curtis worked mainly on independent films and television shows for several years after You Again, before finally achieving a proper Career Resurrection upon reprising her iconic role of Laurie Strode in the sequel/ reboot of Halloween (2018).
• What Could Have Been: Ally Sheedy was considered for the role of Nora.
